I am a husband (celebrating my ten-year anniversary this July), and a father of twin girls. I chose to live in Lakeville because it is a great community, with good schools and had the benefit of easy access to my job in downtown Minneapolis. I have lived within four miles of my current home for eight years, and I cannot imagine living somewhere else. And now it is time to give back to the community; to offer my skills so that we get a government that works.
I am an attorney at Eckland & Blando LLP, specializing in government contracts. After graduating from the University of Minnesota Law School, I took up this specialty and quickly learned that the government stacks the process in its favor. I have pursued justice for business owners across the country. Some of my clients are savvy businessmen, and others are smaller investors. But all believed the government would not go back on its word, and then needed help when the government did. I have fought for them, and I will fight for Lakeville.
I have not always been a lawyer (which may come as a relief to some). I earned an undergraduate and a Master’s degree in psychology, with a focus on research methods and statistics. I worked my way through college, and supported my wife as she earned her graduate degree in social work. My jobs have varied from managing an interstate gas station to working with teenagers and their chemical addictions. Before I went to law school, I administered neuropsychological evaluations (memory, learning, motor-skills tests) for the University of Missouri Hospitals, Abbot Northwestern, and Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology. In these jobs, I learned about problem-solving, and how to evaluate complex issues such as brain function. My experience consists of helping real people with real problems.
I am not your typical politician. And I won’t accept typical results. My focus will be on the serious issues affecting our community, and not on looking good for the next election.
If you agree that we deserve better a government that works then vote for Dave Laidig on Nov. 4.
